The difference in personalities and lifestyles is the core of Zdeněk Svěrák's hilarious comedy. The story of two elderly gentlemen begins in a hospital, where they are both hospitalized. Former tram driver Havlík discovers that his new acquaintance Chouň does not have an apartment and offers him that he can temporarily live with him. The latter happily accepts the offer and soon changes Havlík's proper and honorable life as a widower. The old conductor realizes that he can also live differently: cheerfully and carefree. The idyll is ruined when Chouň robs Havlík...

This downbeat, grim drama about three brothers who are reunited at their mother's funeral is actually visually as dark as its story, making it difficult at times to clearly distinguish a scene. These brothers are not particularly exceptional as people go, but at least they have branched out into separate vocations in their lives. One brother is a doctor, another is a criminal, and the third is a bus driver. Like others in Europe, they suffered through World War II, yet no matter what their backgrounds and experiences, their interpersonal relationships are not exactly gripping drama.

A woman arrives home, apparently coming from her job, and sets out about house chores and placing every object around her with extreme care. The only company she has is the radio, tuned to a station of popular music hits that the audience can ask for by telephone. There is a single hint that she may have breast cancer. Then, she sets the table for a large dinner - for one - including a champagne bottle. She commits suicide by pills overdose, before she utters a word.

When friendship is worth more than any love. It’s the story of the inseparable young friends: Alejandra, Daniel and Omar, who live together, sharing a downtown apartment in a northern Mexican city. Due to family pressure, Alejandra is forced to give temporary shelter to a very attractive young couple they haven’t met before; Rufino and Paz. Du to an alleged family argument, the couple is on the run and need someplace to hide. At the beginning the couple appears to be very conservative regarding the friend’s lifestyle, but after a few days of sharing their living space, little by little an unusual web of desires develops among the five of them.
